One of our most challenging (and rewarding) projects so far

Barchester Care Homes provide support and facilities to the vulnerable and elderly right across the South West. When 20 of their residential homes needed to be freshened up, they came to us.

Bedrooms, en suites, wet rooms, communal areas… They all needed refurbishment and, in some cases, minor structural work. Needless to say, our team needed to be particularly mindful of their surroundings and the residents, some of whom were dementia patients. We set to work, knowing that noise levels and building disruption had to be carefully controlled.

It was certainly a very bespoke project. All the new bedrooms, for example, needed special systems for medical gases and nurse calling installed. While whole wet rooms needed to be replaced, making it easier and safer for residents to bathe. There were even upgrades to guests facilities so families could visit their relatives in comfort. This was on top of the more usual improvements. New carpets, enhanced LED lighting, new fitted furniture, and general building maintenance… It all had to be carried out with sensitivity and restraint.

The new improvements have made such a difference to residents and nursing staff alike. New en-suite bedrooms could now offer patients more safety and convenience than ever, while a bright new reception area and nurses’ base gave staff a more modern, inviting place to work. We loved every moment of the project – and are so humbled to be part of something that genuinely helps so many people.
